Our Story

Ypath started on a Tuesday night in our kitchen, not in a boardroom.

Our son was in his last year of high school, and like most parents, we figured we'd help him sort out university plans over a weekend or two. Instead we sat down one night in something close to panic. He didn't know what he wanted to study. He didn't know what career fit him. Every program page we opened led to three more tabs, three more conflicting opinions, and no real sense of what any of it actually meant for him.

For months it came down to two schools: Western or Queen's. He went back and forth more times than I can count. He finally accepted a residence offer at Queen's, and we thought that part was settled. Then, at the last minute, he changed his mind and chose Western instead. But the switch came after the deadline, and he lost the residence guarantee because of it. One missed date, and a decision that size came down to a technicality neither of us saw coming.

What stayed with me afterward wasn't the stress of that one night. It was the gap. There was no single place to actually see this clearly — no dashboard where a family could look at what a teen is drawn to, match it against real programs and schools, and see the costs, the deadlines, the aid, all in one spot. We built the spreadsheet version for ourselves out of pure necessity. Ypath is what that spreadsheet became once we realized every other family we knew needed the exact same thing.

That's the whole reason Ypath exists: so the next family doesn't have to find this out the hard way, at 11pm, past a deadline that already passed.
